Spring Clean the Mind

Spring Clean the Mind

Spring is a time for clearing out the clutter.  The mind can use it just as much as our closets and garages.  A shift in season is a great opportunity to implement a new morning ritual that will help us to start each day with a clear head.  Whether or not you already have a morning practice, it’s time to change it up a little and embrace this time of renewal and new growth.  Keep it simple!  Don’t think it has to be fancy or complex.

Here is a quick rundown of what I’ve been up to every morning:

  • Cleanse.  I like to drink a cup of warm water and lemon.  You could add skin brushing and oil pulling to your morning cleanse as well, depending on how much time you have.
  • Move.  Loosen up.  Flow through a couple yoga poses or even bust out some dance moves.  No one is watching so you can really go for it.
  • Meditate.  Sit comfortably and breathe deeply.  Do not worry about making your mind go blank.   Check in to see what’s rattling around up there.  If you sit every morning, the chatter will clear more easily and you will find a sense of clarity and heightened creativity.
  • Gratitude.  Say out loud five things that you are grateful for.

Pick a spot to carry out your ritual.  Even if it’s a little chilly in the morning, go outside if you have the space.  Try it for three days in a row and notice what happens.  Tis the season to lighten up and let go.  Spring cleaning the mind will help you to clear out the old and make room for the new.
