Kundalini Yoga Classes
Kundalini yoga and meditation integrates all the facets of yogic science: movement, breathwork, meditation, and mantra. The purpose of Kundalini is to ignite the nerve center of the Soul Body and draw the True Identity of the practitioner up the spine, out of the crown chakra and into their daily lives. People often feel energized and joyful with a heightened awareness of their senses after class.
Kundalini Classes Include Breathwork and Meditation
Kundalini is a different type of yoga than our other hatha yoga styles. Instead of a series of postures linked with breath, kundalini yoga classes focuses on surging energy up the chakras and revitalizing the nervous and glandular systems. This is accomplished through the practice of breath, meditations and kriyas. Every online kundalini yoga class begins with a breathing exercise. Kundalini warm-ups follow and prepare the body for the chosen kriya of the class. Kriyas are a specific set of movements that include different pranayama (breathing), mantras (sounds), and mudras (hand gestures). They are recipes, followed exactly how they were designed by Kundalini’s founder, Yogi Bhajan. Each part of a set is prescribed for a specific length of time and the movements are carried out in a very specific fashion. There are thousands of different kundalini kriyas and they bring a wide range of benefits.
Tips for Kundalini at Home
- Place something soft and comfortable on the yoga mat such as a blanket or a sheepskin. Sheepskin is often used to ground our electromagnetic field during practice.
- Kundalini is an excellent way to start your day! Tune in to one of our classes with Sheel or another teacher first thing in the morning.
- The breathwork can be intense and confusing at first. Especially breath of fire. Remember to make it “bouncy” in the navel and emphasize the inhale just as much as the exhale.
